The 2021 fire on Table Mountain severely damage the well-known tea room adjacent to Herbert Baker’s Rhodes Memorial in Newlands, Cape Town. Probably originally the site foreman’s cottage before extension into a restaurant, the cottage is shown on Baker plans of 1912. Managed by SANParks, the current project is for its re-building and restoration. The principle has been to rebuild to the original as far as possible but with a new service structure at the back of the building.  This will clear more space for seating in the old building and provide better kitchen facilities.
