Repair of fire damaged building
The 1896 ‘Oddfellow’s Hall’ building designed by John Parker burnt in a fire in October 2024 which destroyed the building’s roof and damaged the first floor. The firm undertook reconstruction and required approvals from Heritage Western Cape and the City, including an emergency protection submission and co-ordination with the Structural Engineer to stabilise the building and protect the building fabric. The work entailed detailed research, measuring remaining fabric and burnt elements, especially the decorative trusses and ventilation lantern, and detailing for rebuilding.
