Restoration
The Provincial Heritage Site is one of two wash houses built in 1888 to cater for the growing need for space for clothes washing that had been happening informally in the Platteklip Stream above Cape Town since the 1700’s. The current project is for assessment and documentation of required repair and restoration to protect the building from further deterioration until funding is available for converting it to an important interpretive space focusing on gender and slavery.
